South Louisiana Tailgating Season Kicks Off

Football season comes once a year. Your favorite high school and college teams have already taken the field, and the pros return to the gridiron this week. That means you’ll need to be ready for game day, especially when camping out around the parking lot. Be sure you have everything you need to make your next tailgate legendary.

We’ve Got Spirit, How ’Bout You?

When tailgating, showing off your team’s colors is a MUST. Through outstanding clothing choices, body paint or funny hats, watching people walk around and gawk at the outfits is all part of the fun. Decorations at your tailgate should also reflect your team’s colors and mascot.

Where Y’at?

In the sea of like-colors, make it easy for your guests to locate your tailgate. Try banners with your official tailgating crew name, balloons or life-size cutouts to make your location easy to spot.

Gridiron Grillin’

Select food that can either be cooked ahead and transported to the event or cooked on-site on a grill. Try sticking with the classic finger foods like sandwiches or something you can eat standing up. Remember, most people don’t want to mess with forks or knives.

Clean It Up!

Always remember to clean up after yourself. Throw away your trash and properly dispose of hot coals or grease. NEVER leave a hot grill unattended when going into the stadium for the game.

Local Rules, Regulations and Traditions

Before you leave, take a look at your team’s local tailgating rules and general information on designated tailgating areas, game-day policies and more. This information can often be found online. Most universities have game-day traditions and performances that you will want to see and participate in. Be sure to consult a schedule of events when planning your day.
