Gulf Coast Interfaith Prayer Service
An interfaith prayer service to benefit all whose lives have been affected by the oil spill will be held at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Texas Hold’em Tournament

Schriever Lions Club Texas Hold’em Tournamnet
The Schriever Lions Club will host a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament at 1559 Main Street, Schriever, from 6 p.m. to midnight. There will be a $50 initial buy-in with $50 re-buys optional. You must be 21 to play. Funds raised benefit the Schriever Lions Club, the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation, which provides eye care to the needy, and the Louisiana Lions Camp for handicapped children. Krewe of Kajuns Beauty Pageant
Krewe of Kajuns presents their annual beauty pageant. Taking place at the Bayou Blue Recreation Center, children ages 0 to 21 years are invited to participate. The 2011 Kajun Royalty (top 5 age divisions) will ride in the Krewe of Kajuns Mardi Gras parade on March 8, 2011. Keith Eccles Opening Reception
Gretna native Keith Eccles will showcase his bold acrylic paintings at Southdown Plantation & Museum, 1208 Museum Drive, Houma. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. The artwork can be viewed Tuesday to Saturday from July 25 to Sept. 18 during the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 to see the exhibit only. Krewe of Hercules Festival on the Bayou and Fishing Rodeo
The Krewe of Hercules Festival on the Bayou and Fishing Rodeo will be held Aug. 12 to 15 at the Agricultural Building on the Houma Air Base. This year’s festival will be a four-day event that will feature music, food and the traditional fishing rodeo. The fishing rodeo will have cash prizes for 1 to 3 places in various categories. Tickets cost $25 and include live entertainment by Velvet Sky on Aug. 13, Bag of Donuts on Aug. 14 and much more! The festival will also feature its third-annual jambalaya cook-off on Aug. 14.
